Louise Cheetham
Fibre Artist inspired by all things Mother Nature, I hand make one-of-a-kind tapestries from my narrow boat in West London. Currently teaching myself the age-old craft of spinning on my heritage wheel, I use sustainable Welsh and Cornish wool and yarn.
Blending figurative and abstract elements to create pieces that tell a story and inject life and colour into spaces.

My earthy colour palette blends oranges, browns and greens with motifs like the Mother Earth tree, the cosmos and funghi.

My latest collection of vegetable ink paintings are heavily inspired by the landscapes of my home town in South Wales with the female form.

What's in a name?

Danu, /'danu:/ in Celtic religion, the earth-mother goddess or female principle was honoured under various names from eastern Europe to Wales and Ireland. The mythology that surrounded her was contradictory and confused; mother goddesses of earlier peoples were ultimately identified with her, as were many goddesses of the Celts themselves. A goddess of nature, rebirth, of wisdom, and of wind.

Danu acts as a mystical backdrop to HOD's pieces and gives a nod to the origins of this creative journey in Lou's hometown in South Wales.
